I use many of the things I learned. The therapists are great people and care about each and every person in the program. They are very personable. They try to help you, and I bet they can.

The Lexington clinic helped me keep a positive routine and stay in the right mindset for a sober life. It helped me save my own life. Even after completing the program, I am still in contact. They stay with you so you never have to feel alone like you did in addiction.

I don’t know how my therapist is able to stay calm, not get annoyed one bit, and ease the anxiety but she does and she does it with love and grace. She is beyond helpful and professional.

They cared for me when sometimes I didn't care about myself. Anytime I needed something they would always help me. Without them, I wouldn't be the responsible adult I am today. This place saved my life.

Lexington Clinic FAQ

From the IOP program and Suboxone clinic to our alcohol & drug rehab, here are 5 things most people want to know about addiction treatment in Lexington.
1

Do I really need treatment?

You’re looking into this rehab clinic for a reason. Whether you come here or not, for the sake of your life, follow through on treatment.

  • Feel at Peace – Constantly thinking about drugs or alcohol is exhausting. Live without a black cloud in your head.
  • Get Your Family Back – Your family is worried about you. Break down the isolation to reconnect with the people that love and need you back.
  • Don’t Get Worse – The longer you live with drugs or alcohol, the more destruction it causes. Get help now to protect your future.
2

What is the Lexington rehab clinic schedule?

The hours at the clinic are built to fit into your life. Work and family obligations are never an excuse to put off getting help. Appointments are scheduled as you look at your calendar.

Group therapy

  • Runs every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Morning, evening and virtual sessions

How much does the Lexington program cost?

Most people at the Lexington rehab clinic use insurance, which means the cost depends on your specific deductible.

If you went to rehab this year, treatment here is likely free to you.

The Lexington clinic is in-network with almost every insurance, including:

  • Aetna
  • Anthem / Blue Cross, Blue Shield
  • Beacon / Value Options
  • Cigna
  • Tribal Care
  • Humana
  • Multiplan
  • Optum / United Healthcare
  • Tricare
  • Kentucky Medicaid

Most private therapists, Suboxone doctors and addiction treatment centers in the Lexington area are out-of-network or do not accept insurance, which means it will cost you more.

For those without insurance, costs depend on your treatment plan.

  • Things like Suboxone or extra therapy sessions increase your costs.
  • After you discuss your situation, you can pay upfront at a 30% discount or just pay per appointment.

The bottom line…treatment at JourneyPure Lexington is affordable and we will always work with you.

4

Is outpatient treatment enough?

Outpatient is a great option to continue to live your life, while you also work to save it.

IOP is ideal for:

  • First-Time in Treatment – If you’re just noticing a problem, outpatient treatment is a great step. The sooner you take action, the easier it is to recover from the mental, physical and spiritual damage and recalibrate unhealthy thinking.
  • Rehab Aftercare – IOP is recommended after you leave the 24/7 safety of rehab. Our outpatient program keeps you accountable and helps you apply everything you’ve learned.
  • A Short Slip – A relapse is not a failure. It’s all about what you do to get back up. IOP helps you quickly get back on track instead of slipping further downhill.

Other Options

If you’ve been in-and-out of other treatment centers with little sobriety, you already know you need more.

How bad is the drug problem in Lexington?

It’s bad. Kentucky has one of the highest overdose death rates in the country according to the CDC, and Fayette is ranked number two in the state.

Overdose deaths were decreasing in Fayette County in 2018 and 2019 – but hit a record high in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a surge of Fentanyl-laced drugs.

To reverse the trend:

  • The Fayette County Health Department and the Fayette County Detention Center gave out thousands of naloxone kits, which reverse an overdose.
  • The Lexington Fire Department added a second social worker to provide resources and data.
  • The city paid $40,000 to help 100 Lexington residents pay sober living rent after losing their job. (This program ended December 2020).
  • The most common drugs in Fayette county: Opiates / Opioids (heroin, morphine, fentanyl, OxyContin, Vicodin), methamphetamine (crystal meth), cocaine, marijuana, and, of course, alcohol.

If you’re thinking “just one more” … “just a little hit” … “I know my tolerance”…reach out. There’s help right here in Lexington.

Mom of Krista P.

When I made the first phone call, I had so many questions. I had no idea what to expect. I'd never been through anything like this before. They answered all my questions and even called me back to make sure that I didn't have any more questions.

They were willing to talk to me the entire way, the two hours I was driving to get there. They said, "We'll stay on the phone with you if we need to." I just felt special, honestly, at a time where I didn't feel special about myself and I really needed that in that moment.

For everyone

Naltrexone (Vivitrol, Revia, Depade) is non-addictive. The medication blocks the positive effects of alcohol and drugs to discourage relapse, while also reducing cravings.

It can be started day 7-10 of sobriety and has no serious side effects. Because of cost, it's usually used for 1-12 months, but could be taken forever.

In shot form (Vivitrol), it’s administered once a month at the clinic, eliminating the option to skip or mistake the dose. If not covered by insurance Vivitrol is $1,000 per monthly shot, though they offer a savings card. The other options are Revia and Depade. These daily oral pills are around $100 a month.

Gabapentin (Neurontin, Gralise, Horizant) is a medication that has been studied recently for cravings. While research is ongoing, the takeaway is that Gabapentin is addictive and rarely the right choice.

For alcohol

While Naltrexone is usually the first choice, the following medications are also FDA-approved specifically for alcoholism:

  • Acamprosate (Campral) reduces symptoms of long-lasting withdrawal and cravings, such as insomnia, anxiety, restlessness and generally feeling unwell. It must be taken three times a day.
  • Disulfiram (Antabuse) interferes with the body’s ability to absorb alcohol. Instead of feeling “good”, alcohol will cause unpleasant reactions such as nausea and possibly be dangerous. Those who have shown the ability to stay sober for an extended period with recent relapse are ideal candidates.
  • Topiramate (Topamax, Qudexy) is an FDA-approved medication for seizures used “off label” to also reduce alcohol cravings due to initial promising research.

For opiates

In addition to Naltrexone, these medications are FDA-approved to treat heroin or pain pill addiction:

  • Buprenorphine + Naloxone (Suboxone) helps prevent withdrawal symptoms by replacing the effects of opiates with a lesser effect that does not produce a “high.” This is typically administered for 7-10 days or a longer maintenance program. This medication is addictive but poses a much lower risk.
  • Methadone (Dolophine, Methadose) is a more dangerous version of the above medication that is no longer recommended.

For underlying issues

All other physical and mental health issues (like depression and anxiety) need to be treated – whether they helped fuel the addiction in the first place or came as a result of the addiction.

Common mental health prescriptions include:

  • Fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem) or Bupropion (Wellbutrin) for depression
  • Aripiprazole (Abilify) for mood and bipolar
  • Trazodone (Oleptro) or Hydroxyzine (Vistaril, Atarax) for sleep and anxiety
  • Paroxetine (Paxil, Pexeva, Brisdelle) or Sertraline (Zoloft) for major depress, PTSD, OCD
  • Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) for mood stabilization
