Amazing experience, more than I could have imagined. I feel whole for the first time in a long time. Everyone was there for you - nurses, providers, recovery coaches, therapists, group leaders, case managers. You are supported.

I was weighed down with guilt and shame from my alcohol addiction and JP showed me the way out through hard work, commitment and dedication. Going to Journey Pure was the best decision I could have made for myself and my family!

Candace S.

Review from Google - Google Logo

I came to Journey Pure with no hope of turning my life around. I didn’t believe I could get sober and lost faith in myself. I am leaving with a plan and, most importantly, faith that sobriety is possible for me. I’m forever grateful. The staff here saved my life.

What to Expect from the Nashville Alcohol & Drug Rehab Clinic

You probably have tons of questions. That's normal. Now is the time to get answers.
1

How can I stay sober in a city like Nashville?

Nashville (and the embedded music industry) is known for partying, drinking and drugs. But, you can stay sober!

The IOP program at the Nashville rehab clinic helps you:

  • Stay accountable for the first 45 critical days.
  • Build a strong support network to counter the temptations in your personal/work networks.
  • Develop coping skills, goal setting and a relapse prevention plan to deal with triggers, stress, disappointment, boredom and social situations.
  • Treat underlying issues that fuel the cycle of relapse like depression, anxiety and PTSD (trauma) or less commonly bipolar and disordered eating.
  • Get any medications you need to rebalance your brain (ie. antidepressants or anticravings like Vivitrol)

When you’re in the struggle, staying sober always feels impossible. It’s not. You don’t have to fully believe you will stay sober to get started, all you need to do is show up. (And, keep showing up).

2

Will the Nashville clinic accommodate my work schedule?

Yes, not missing work or family obligations is the main advantage of outpatient treatment.

This Davidson County clinic keeps hours:

  • Before work
  • After work
  • On Weekend
  • Virtually

Appointments are scheduled as you’re looking at your calendar. Most people attend the same sessions each week, but there is flexibility.

3

Can I pick what therapies, treatments or medications I want?

The evidence-based treatment curriculum for the IOP program is a big reason why our success rates are so high.

You can:

  • Choose the IOP program, the Medication-Assisted Treatment Program (Suboxone maintenance) or both together
  • Request a specific therapist
  • Choose your appointment schedule
  • Decide about medications

That said, most people want to skip out on group therapy for IOP. Group therapy is proven more effective than individual therapy for addiction issues.

In a peer group setting you:

  • Take advice more seriously
  • Learn from real-life examples
  • Get more variety of advice
  • Find some “good” using your struggles to help others
  • Make friends that become life-saving supporters

Just give the full program a chance…(It might just change your life).

4

What are the demographics of the Nashville clinic?

All kinds of people struggle with drugs or alcohol – moms, dads, sons, daughters, grandparents, professionals, students.

  • This clinic saw slightly more women (54%) than men (46%) in the last six months.
  • The youngest patient here was 19, but the oldest was 64 and the average age is 38.
  • Most people consider their drug of choice alcohol, followed by opioids, then meth, marijuana and benzos (like Xanax).
  • 88% of people have been to inpatient rehab before. Many start outpatient right after rehab.
5

How is this clinic better than other outpatient rehabs in Nashville?

Well…the success rate here is DOUBLE that of your average rehab clinic in Davidson County.

Here are our four simple philosophies that keep more people sober:

  • Only allow people into the program that we really think the program can help.
  • Don’t hire a therapist unless they are happy to go above and beyond for each person that walks through the doors.
  • Stay on top of and publish our own research on the most effective therapy methods.
  • Provide ongoing Accountability Coaching for one full year with free access to the peer coach any time – even years later.

It’s not about a magic treatment that cures everyone. It’s about doing the things that work with higher standards and more passion and follow-up than anyone else.

Mom of Krista P.

When I made the first phone call, I had so many questions. I had no idea what to expect. I'd never been through anything like this before. They answered all my questions and even called me back to make sure that I didn't have any more questions.

They were willing to talk to me the entire way, the two hours I was driving to get there. They said, "We'll stay on the phone with you if we need to." I just felt special, honestly, at a time where I didn't feel special about myself and I really needed that in that moment.

For everyone

Naltrexone (Vivitrol, Revia, Depade) is non-addictive. The medication blocks the positive effects of alcohol and drugs to discourage relapse, while also reducing cravings.

It can be started day 7-10 of sobriety and has no serious side effects. Because of cost, it's usually used for 1-12 months, but could be taken forever.

In shot form (Vivitrol), it’s administered once a month at the clinic, eliminating the option to skip or mistake the dose. If not covered by insurance Vivitrol is $1,000 per monthly shot, though they offer a savings card. The other options are Revia and Depade. These daily oral pills are around $100 a month.

Gabapentin (Neurontin, Gralise, Horizant) is a medication that has been studied recently for cravings. While research is ongoing, the takeaway is that Gabapentin is addictive and rarely the right choice.

For alcohol

While Naltrexone is usually the first choice, the following medications are also FDA-approved specifically for alcoholism:

  • Acamprosate (Campral) reduces symptoms of long-lasting withdrawal and cravings, such as insomnia, anxiety, restlessness and generally feeling unwell. It must be taken three times a day.
  • Disulfiram (Antabuse) interferes with the body’s ability to absorb alcohol. Instead of feeling “good”, alcohol will cause unpleasant reactions such as nausea and possibly be dangerous. Those who have shown the ability to stay sober for an extended period with recent relapse are ideal candidates.
  • Topiramate (Topamax, Qudexy) is an FDA-approved medication for seizures used “off label” to also reduce alcohol cravings due to initial promising research.

For opiates

In addition to Naltrexone, these medications are FDA-approved to treat heroin or pain pill addiction:

  • Buprenorphine + Naloxone (Suboxone) helps prevent withdrawal symptoms by replacing the effects of opiates with a lesser effect that does not produce a “high.” This is typically administered for 7-10 days or a longer maintenance program. This medication is addictive but poses a much lower risk.
  • Methadone (Dolophine, Methadose) is a more dangerous version of the above medication that is no longer recommended.

For underlying issues

All other physical and mental health issues (like depression and anxiety) need to be treated – whether they helped fuel the addiction in the first place or came as a result of the addiction.

Common mental health prescriptions include:

  • Fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem) or Bupropion (Wellbutrin) for depression
  • Aripiprazole (Abilify) for mood and bipolar
  • Trazodone (Oleptro) or Hydroxyzine (Vistaril, Atarax) for sleep and anxiety
  • Paroxetine (Paxil, Pexeva, Brisdelle) or Sertraline (Zoloft) for major depress, PTSD, OCD
  • Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) for mood stabilization
